Right now, Sushmita Sen lives, eats, drinks and sleeps with Rani Laxmibai. "Being the first product of my production house, Tantra Productions, Rani Laxmibai is something that I'm very ambitious about," she says with electric excitement."While Tantra Productions is the parent company, 'Sushmita Sen Productions' will be producing feature films. Tantra will be going into every sphere of entertainment, from television software to events management….all kinds of things to do with the creative process. There'll be different divisions of Tantra."
At the moment, her swanky new production is focusing only on the historical project. "Sushmita Sen Productions is what we're focusing on right now. I'm working very hard to put the company's logistics in place. Going into direction wasn't something I had planned. Unfortunately or fortunately I can't think of anyone else who feels as strongly about Laxmibai. If that's the seat I'm being persuaded to take, it's in the best interest of my film that the creative people I've on board must have a trustworthy name in the market."Sushmita is restless. "I get only 4-6 hours of sleep these days. Fortunately, I am not facing the camera these days. So I don't care how I look." Dulha Mil Gaya is Sushmita's only acting assignment at the moment. "It's my genre of a film, and I'm very excited about it. By God's grace the film will be a decent precursor to 'Rani Laxmibai'.

(Courtesy: Indiantelevision.com)
By Nayanima Basu, Mumbai, March 28: Indian entertainment major Pyramid Saimira Group is planning to open a total of 2,000 movie screens, a mix of multiplex and individual ones, across India by 2010. It has also made a foray into the Chinese entertainment industry, the fastest growing in the world.
The Chennai-based company, which controls about 60-65 percent of the south Indian film market, is planning to increase its presence in the exhibition space mainly in northern India while further consolidating its position in the south."We are planning to open 800 screens across the entire north India, out of which 500 would be multiplexes and 300 individual screens," P.S. Saminathan, managing director of Pyramid Saimira Theatre Ltd, told IANS here."We may also look into buying some and converting them into multiplexes," he said, adding that the company plans to open a total 2,000 screens by 2010."The remaining 1,200 would be in various corners of southern India."For this the company has earmarked about Rs.4-4.5 billion to be invested in phases. It also plans to achieve a turnover of Rs.7-8 billion in the current fiscal year of 2007-08, up from Rs.1 billion in 2006-07."For our multiplexes we will be mostly focusing on tier-II and tier-III cities as there is less competition and more management skills are required," he added. The company forayed into the Chinese entertainment and media industry last week for exhibition, distribution and production businesses."We are probably the only private sector company to operate there. It is the fastest growing entertainment industry in the world. We intend to set up the infrastructure there, create local content and look at other activities," Saminathan said."The China market is an extremely regulated one but is infested with piracy. But there is less of competition for us and we have the government's support so I am sure it will turn out to be a good business proposition."The group also bagged a satellite broadcasting deal with Britain-based Spize TV to venture into the broadcasting sector."With Spize TV agreement coupled with the Chinese foray, we plan to introduce 100 channels in the next one year," he said. Milestones in Photography
(Courtesy: Photographic Society)
Photograph by Nicéphore Niépce Centuries of advances in chemistry and optics, including the invention of the camera obscura, set the stage for the world's first photograph. In 1826, French scientist Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, took that photograph, titled View from the Window at Le Gras at his family's country home. Niépce produced his photo—a view of a courtyard and outbuildings seen from the house's upstairs window—by exposing a bitumen-coated plate in a camera obscura for several hours on his windowsill.
Photograph by James Clerk Maxwell
Best known for his development of electromagnetic theory, Scottish physicist James Clerk Maxwell dabbled in color theory throughout his life, eventually producing the first color photograph in 1861. Maxwell created the image of the tartan ribbon shown here by photographing it three times through red, blue, and yellow filters, then recombining the images into one color composite.

The settling of a debate—whether, during its trot, all four of a horse's hooves are off the ground at the same time—led English photographer Eadweard Muybridge to develop the first photographs to capture the sequence of movement. In 1878, Muybridge arranged 24 trip-wire cameras along a racetrack. The resulting photos, The Horse in Motion, proved all four hooves leave the ground during a trot and set the stage for the first motion pictures.

An unknown photographer inspired legions of tornado-chasers when he captured the earliest known photograph of a tornado. The black-and-white image was taken on August 28, 1884, about 22 miles (45 kilometers) southwest of Howard, South Dakota.

Some of the world's first aerial photographs were taken not by humans but by birds. In 1903, German engineer Julius Neubronner combined an analog camera and timer, which he attached to a pigeon's neck. The German military took notice of Neubronner's innovative approach to aerial photography, and by World War II pigeons were collecting secret aerial photography for both Allied and Axis forces.

This flashlight photograph of a white-tailed doe with her fawns was among the world's first nighttime photographs of animals, shot by photographer and wildlife enthusiast George Shiras. A pioneer in flashlight and trip-wire photography, Shiras captured this shot in Whitefish River, Michigan, around 1906 using a remote-control flashlight camera triggered when an animal stepped on the trip wire.

In April 1909, Admiral Robert Peary and his team (pictured here), including Inuits Ooqeah, Ooatah, Egingwah, and Seeglo and fellow American Matthew Henson, became the first explorers to reach what they believed to be the North Pole. Later studies found that Peary was actually 30 to 60 miles (50 to 100 kilometers) short of the Pole.

Underwater color photography was born with this shot of a hogfish, photographed off the Florida Keys in the Gulf of Mexico by Dr. William Longley and National Geographic staff photographer Charles Martin in 1926. Equipped with cameras encased in waterproof housing and pounds of highly explosive magnesium flash powder for underwater illumination, the pair pioneered underwater photography.

In 1912 Yale University professor and explorer Hiram Bingham was searching in the Peruvian Andes for the ancient Inca capital of Vilcabamba when he and his guide stumbled onto one of the greatest archaeological finds in history. Thanks to his photographs of the lost city of Machu Picchu, Bingham and National Geographic helped bring archaeology out of the field and into people's homes.

When he wandered into an Afghan refugee camp in Pakistan in December 1984, National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry captured one of the most famous portraits the world had ever seen. The Afghan girl with the haunting green eyes captivated everyone. That captivation proved, once again, the power of photography to open eyes—and hearts and minds—with a single image.

Absolutely chic and classy, her first public appearance with the new hair do was at the MTV Hero Honda Roadies event in Mumbai, which really made heads turn. Adding the ultimate touch to Bipasha's new look, are the copper and reddish brown hair tones. If you are wondering what prompted Bipasha to chop off her wavy locks even before it is summer, it was just the need for that 'change'.
